In assembly today we heard all about the festival of Diwali. It is an important festival in the Hindu calendar. Diwali takes place every year and lasts for five days. Diwali is celebrated by thousands of people in countries all around the world including lots of children and families from our school. There has been great excitement about Diwali in our school this week. In assembly the children told us about their homes and how they are decorated with flowers and lights. The children told us that the lights represent the victory of good over evil and invite good luck from the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. Diwali is a time to have fun with friends and family! People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to dance and sing! We were really lucky to be given delicious treats and cards from some of our parents. Some of the children wore their special clothes to school. They all looked so fabulous and colourful. Finally we had a lovely dance together to celebrate Diwali. Happy Diwali to all the families in our school celebrating this week.
