What’s better than going on a trip with your school? I know! Going to a castle that we can walk to for free!! Room 5 recently enjoyed a fabulous trip to Dublin Castle, tucked away off Dame Street in the city centre. We learned so much from our tour guide Charlotte and the wonderful team who work in the castle. We were amazed to hear where Dublin got it’s name from, how the various ‘Viceroys’ lived in the castle, and even got to go underground to see the foundations of the old powder tower.
Take a minute to read about our trip in the fantastic examples of writing below!
Our favourite fact we learned was that the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins visits Dublin Castle very often for important business. We made sure to be on the lookout for the President just in case this was one of those days. Later that week we read a book called ‘The President’s Glasses’, which tells the fun story about his pigeon flying over Dublin city to return the glasses to Mr. Higgins. We were so shocked to see that Dublin Castle is even featured in the book too!
