Planting potato tubers in the garden
Luke and Alayah talk about planting potatoes in our garden.
We dug the soil and put the potato tuber into the soil. Then we covered them and watered them because they need water to grow. They get food from the soil and the sun as well. Now they have everything they need to grow they will grow into big potatoes…
Four weeks later the potato tubers were growing into big potato plants. We will be able to harvest our potatoes in September after the summer holidays.
Callum and Zuzanna talk about the rooks nest in the London Plane tree in our garden.
We have a Rook’s nest in a tree in our garden. We see the two babies sitting on the fence sometimes and we saw the mammy bird watching them from the nest in the tree. The baby rooks are asleep (having a little chill out) on the fence. They are waking up and spreading their wings. They are calling for their mammy. We can’t see the baby birds when they are in the nest. I like having the baby birds in the garden. They look at us when we are playing. When they get bigger they will be mammy and daddy and get a nest of their own.
Jarleigh and Andrew talk about sowing sunflower seeds.
We put soil in the pot, put our finger in to make a hole, put a seed in the hole, covered it up with soil and watered it. We put them in the greenhouse in the garden. We are bringing them home to take care of them and give them water. We will see the flower during the summer holidays. I will keep it near a window because it needs the sun. Maybe I will keep it outside so the rain and sun will come.
Cameron and Michael talk about Sweetpea flowers growing in our garden.
We plant sweet peas in the garden. We dug a hole in the soil, put the plant in the hole, pat the soil around it and put water on it. They are going to grow flowers.
We need to water them so they keep growing. When they grow we will see pretty flowers. The plant has tendrils which it uses to hold on. It will be a long time before we see the flowers.
We won’t eat the sweat peas but the flowers will smell lovely…
Although we won’t be able to eat the sweat peas there are other delicious fruit and vegetables growing in our garden that we can eat. Apples from the apple tree in Autumn, strawberries, garlic and potatoes. The birds and insects will want to eat these too…
