Welcome Back to School

Welcome Back to School

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back to all our pupils and a very special welcome to the new families in our school community. We will hold a meeting for new Junior Infants’ parents at the end of September: you will receive an invitation by text. We would like to let you know about the following:

School Information

Primary school is an eight-year programme. Your child will spend three years in the Infants’ School - Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class. She/he may then transfer to Central Model Senior School, to the right of the arch.

Website

Please visit our lovely new website at www.centralmodelinfantschool.ie. All school events will be on the calendar there. See all our up to date news and photos throughout the year.

School Uniforms

It is great to see all our pupils in their school uniforms. Please write your child’s name on the labels on jumpers/cardigans. You can buy a school crest from the office for €2.00 to sew onto your school jumper or cardigan if you wish. We also have navy ties for €2.50.

School Tracksuits

Tracksuits are available from Guineys on North Earl Street and must be worn on Tuesdays and Thursdays with runners for P.E. (physical education). Children may choose to wear our school tracksuit and runners every day as we are an Active School, and encourage the children to run/climb and play every day of the week. Tracksuits must also be worn on swimming day. School shorts are available from the office at a cost of €7.00.

Book Money

Thank you to those of you who have paid your €35.00. Please be aware that this is a very small amount for a school to ask to provide all books and materials. Please pay this to Valerie, our Secretary immediately. If you have more that one child in the Infants’ School the cost is €30.00 for the next child.

School times 9.30 a.m. – 2.10p.m. (Junior Infants have shorter days until week ending 13th September)

  • It is very important that all children are in school for 9.30a.m. as you will disrupt class work by being late and they may be marked absent. It is not fair on your child or their teachers if you are regularly late.
  • Parents should say goodbye at the classroom door. Children walk in by themselves, hang up their coat and get their own chair.
  • Your child must be collected by 2.10p.m. Please do not ring the buzzer; the gate will be opened at 2.00p.m by Valerie, our Secretary.

Meetings

New Junior Infants parents meeting will take place at the end of September, you will receive a text. Until then, you are welcome to talk to teachers at home time. If you have any concern in relation to your child, please make an appointment with the class teacher. Morning times are not a good time to talk about serious issues as the teacher has a whole class to look after.

Attendance

If your child is absent please inform the teacher of the reason on their return or give a written note which will be recorded. There is no need to ring the school. This school values excellent attendance and awards are given throughout the year. We are delighted that every year we have children who miss either 0 or only 1 day!

Lunches

Your child will be given a healthy snack and lunch each day. Over the next two weeks your child’s teacher will ask you to choose your child’s sandwich preference. Children should not arrive at school eating sweets. They should have their own bottle of plain water, (not flavoured) to drink during the day. School is thirsty work! Chewing gum is not allowed inside the school grounds.

Birthdays

Children’s birthdays are celebrated at assembly with a song. Please do not send in cakes or sweets as they will be sent home again.

Swimming

Your child’s class will go swimming for four weeks during the school year. You will receive a note at the time.

Health & Safety

  • Children must never be left unsupervised in the school grounds before 9.30a.m. or after 2.10p.m. They must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children from the Infants’ School must not play around the offices or the Senior School where pupils are in class until 2.30pm. Please do not disturb classes by entering the room and making noise.

  • The gate will be opened by our secretary, Valerie at 2.00pm. Please co-operate with this as need to keep our school grounds secure and to know who is here at all times. This is for the safety of children and staff.

  • Our main gate is used for cars and vans and there is a lot of traffic around our gate. Please be very vigilant. DO NOT PARK IN THE YELLOW BOX OR BLOCK THE GATES.

  • The Playground equipment is for use during school times only. Please do not allow your children to play on it. We appreciate your co-operation.

  • School is a no smoking area.

  • Dogs are not allowed inside the school gates.

Greenschool

We are very proud of our five green flags for 1) Recycling, 2) Energy, 3) Water, 4) Travel, 5) Biodiversity. Please keep the school litter free and teach your child to care for the environment. We hope you enjoy our lovely garden!

Active School

We are proud to be an Active School and are always working to improve the children’s fitness and give them a life long love of sports and exercise. It is great to see so many children walking and travelling by scooter to school.

School Calendar

Your school calendar is attached and is on the notice board under the arch. You will also find it on our website.

This school really values positive communication. Children should be able to make eye contact and say ‘Hello’ to teachers and other children. We hope you will teach them this too. We believe that if we all respect each other; our school and the world will be a better place! We look forward to working with you and your child this year.

Go raibh maith agat (thank you!)
