Samhain/November Update

18-November-24

Hi everyone!

We are back from midterm and straight into another busy season
here in school. The junior infants have completed their first half-term of school
and, honestly, it feels like they have been with us for ages! They are confident,
happy and fun members of our community and that’s how we like it. They love
learning the Irish language and make me smile with their Dia dhuit agus Slán!

We place a big value on finding and using your own voice and on being
independent from an early age, so we are delighted with our pupils’
involvement in Active and Green schools’ committees. Each class also takes a
turn at performing at our assembly and I’m always amazed at the high
standard of participation and the joy that it sparks.

We also take attendance very seriously so congratulations to classes that are
achieving excellent results in attendance and coming on time. Every day is a
school day unless you’re very sick.

As you know, the ONLY uniform we have now is the school tracksuit. This is so
that girls and boys are equally ready for the huge variety of physical activity
that we build into every school day-in and outdoors all year round. They should
be comfortable and warm, able to stretch, run and move and easily change for
swimming at our fabulous local pool.

This is Parent/Teacher meeting week. We look forward to you, your child’s first
educator, meeting their class teacher discussing their progress. We really value
this connection with you.

We are still seeking a Dad nominee for our Board of Management. Feel free to
ask me about it if you are interested.

We said goodbye to Tom, our lovely traffic warden who served us every day
with a smile, out there on Gardiner St. I know he really treasured all your
warmth and friendliness. Tom, you are missed, enjoy every moment of your
retirement-you’ve earned it!

Finally, the children are learning lots of lovely songs so the school is filled with
music! We will be so happy for you to join us as we get near Christmas, to light
up the Winter with a celebration of music and song.

Míle buíochas (a thousand thank yous)

Catherine Groves
