Update from today's Green Schools meeting....

Green Schools Committee Meeting

The Green Schools Committee met this afternoon with Ms. Groves, Ms. McNulty and Ms. Lyons. It was a very productive meeting and many issues were discussed.

Ms Groves informed us that our caretaker, Alan, is very impressed at how clean our school yard is being kept. So continue using those pickers on the yard and keep our beautiful school clean and green!

The children talked about the amount of plastic packaging in our lunch bags each day - plastic around the milk straws, around sandwiches, rice cakes, oat bars, pancakes.... They would love if this could be reduced.

We discussed a First Class/Green Schools Committee trip to Glanmore Foods factory and then, while there, asking how they hope to reduce plastic packaging. We wrote a letter to Eric from Glanmore Foods, asking if we could visit and discuss this with them.

The Committee also decided to write a 'Thank You' card to Barbara from our cleaning company, who came to our last meeting. We asked her to visit us again.

The children feel the 'Eco Warriors' are doing a great job in each classroom, making sure waste is disposed of correctly.

Some of the children from the Green Schools Committee will feed back what was discussed at today's meeting to the children at the next school Assembly.

They will demonstrate how items must be clean and dry before putting them into the green bin.
