Room 1 has had so much fun getting into the Christmas spirit this week. We learned all about the traditions associated with Sinterklaas and the 6th of December – we were lucky because there were some boys and girls in our class who mark this day with their families and they were able to tell us even more about it! In the afternoon, we put our shoes outside our classroom door in the hopes that Sinterklaas would visit us. A little later on, we heard bells ringing, and when we checked, chocolate coins had been left in each of our shoes! Thank you Sinterklaas!
We had also been doing a lot of work writing letters to Santa. We each drafted, edited and rewrote a letter to Santa – and we included a lovely drawing for him to enjoy too! We prepared our envelopes and stamps ready to pop in the post to go all the way to the North Pole!
On Thursday we walked down to the General Post Office on O’Connell Street to put our special letters in the post box for Santa. The GPO is a really big and important building and it was very busy. On O’Connell Street we were so impressed by the big Christmas tree and the even bigger Spire.
On our way back to school we had another special treat – we went to get hot chocolate and muffins! Yum!
We have had such a super week!

Christmas preparations are in full swing in Room 3. This week we have been so busy getting ready for Christmas. We decided it was time to write our Santa letters; everyone had a long think about what the one thing they’d really, really like was – then got down to writing a letter to Santa. We made sure to use our absolute best handwriting, so that Santa knew exactly how hard we have been working in Senior Infants; some of us even added in some lovely Christmas illustrations to our letters. When we had our letters stamped and addressed we knew we were ready for a very special mission to the GPO on O’Connell street.
Yesterday we delivered our letters to the GPO and made sure to put them in the special Santa post box where they would be delivered straight to the North Pole. We entertained everyone with our beautiful singing of some of our favourite Christmas songs. On the way back we decided there was no better way to finish off our lovely wintry walk than with some delicious hot chocolates and muffins. What a fabulous December day we had walking in a winter wonderland!!!
